Rate of perceived exertion: a 1-10 scale of how hard a set felt. In strength training it is the same idea as RIR with the axis flipped (RPE 8 = RIR 2), which is why Horme only asks you for RIR: "how many did you have left?" can be counted, whereas grading a sensation from 1 to 10 cannot. RPE is still used for the whole session (sRPE) when calculating your training load.
