Collagen + Vitamin C
Emerging evidence for connective tissue, not for muscle.
What it is for
Possible support for tendons, ligaments and connective tissue.
How it works
It provides glycine/proline; with vitamin C it may stimulate collagen synthesis in connective tissue.
Dosing
15–30 g/day with vitamin C and loading exercise has been studied. This is a research range, not a universal prescription for treating an injury.
When to take it
Some protocols administer it before loading exercise. Taking it 30–60 minutes beforehand has not been established as optimal and does not replace rehabilitation.
Safety
Safe.
Side effects
Rare digestive discomfort.
Interactions
None relevant.
Contraindications
None in healthy people.
Who it has been studied in
Of interest for tendon/ligament injuries and rehabilitation.
Frequently asked
Is it useful for muscle?
It is a low-quality protein for stimulating muscle synthesis and does not replace complete sources. The 2026 review found no additional strength benefit from collagen; muscle-size results remain uncertain.
